“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”
– “As You Like It”, William Shakespeare
Buildings are microcosms of society: from the outside, they appear as a single unit; inside, they reveal complex lives.
In this piece, each window exposes a human state: being born, dying, celebrating, collapsing, enduring. Everything happens at the same time. We share walls, but not inner lives.
What unfolds inside each apartment is intimate, like our deepest thoughts. Outwardly, we wear masks and assume roles; we present a more stable, more controlled version of ourselves.
Six monitors reveal, through animation, what takes place inside each apartment. The styles used include stop motion, anime, classic 1950s illustration, among others, and were chosen according to the emotional state inhabiting each space.
